You don't have to manually import new pictures. Once your photos have been added to Picasa, they are organized into albums that will appear in folders with the same names from which they were taken. You can reorganize and move photos from one location to another by simply dragging and dropping. Picasa also lets you add tags to your pictures so that you can sort them easily, including adding the location in which the photos were taken although this has to be inputted manually nowadays.
You're also able to tag the people in the photos so that you can easily find them. Picasa's interface is fairly basic and looks quite boxy and old fashioned now.
You can change how photos are displayed and switch easily between Library View and Edit View found under the View menu. Tabs within the interface separate different projects from the library and import sections.

Finally, Picasa also includes some very useful options to detect duplicate and empty albums and compress your photos.
On March , Google retired Picasa in order to focus on its new photo service app. But users who have installed the app can still continue using it since it still works as it does. However, the developers will no longer continue enhancing it further. Therefore, there will be no future updates for the app. Even though Picasa has been officially retired, users can still access their Web Album through Google Photos. Simply log in to your Google Photos account, and all your Picasa web albums will be there.
You can also access your Picasa web album data, including tags, captions, and comments at the album archive. Since it retires, Picasa's web album is no longer supported. Existing Picasa albums are synced to the users Google account. To download your albums, simply click the File menu and Import from Google Photos.
You can either choose to import all albums or select specific albums to download. All downloaded albums will show up in Picasa under the Web Albums. Picasa allows users to edit multiple photos at once.
